Where is my writing kept?
In your account, so it’s on every device you sign in on. The browser you’re using keeps a copy so the studio opens fast and works offline; signing out clears it. Settings also has one button that backs up everything as a single file, and one that restores it.
Do I need an account?
Yes, a free one, and it takes a few seconds: sign in with Google, or with a six-digit code we email you. No password to invent, no card. It’s what keeps your writing safe and on every device you write on.
What’s free, and what’s paid?
Everything is free while Buildblur is in beta: every story you want, the world bible, screenplay format, the continuity check, the reader simulator, share links, every export and the authorship record, with 100 AI asks a month. A paid plan is coming after the beta, along with AI credits you can top up. Nothing is charged today, and nothing you’ve written will ever be locked behind it.
What happens to my words when I use the AI?
Only the passage you ask about, and the parts of your world it needs, go to a free model through OpenRouter (or Groq or Cloudflare when it is busy). Buildblur keeps nothing. The companies behind free models may keep logs, so treat it like email. The AI is optional: every other part of the studio works without it. More in the AI policy.
Who owns what I write?
You do. We claim no rights to your work, including text you keep from an AI suggestion. See the terms.
Is the screenplay format real?
Scene headings, action, characters, parentheticals, dialogue and transitions, laid out as you type. Enter moves to the next element, Tab changes it. Export Final Draft (.fdx), Fountain or PDF, and import .fdx and .fountain.
Can I bring my draft in, and take it out?
Bring in Word (.docx), Final Draft, Fountain, Markdown or plain text, and Buildblur splits it into scenes. Take it out as PDF, EPUB, Markdown, plain text, Final Draft or Fountain.
What is the authorship record?
While you write, the editor counts every character by where it came from: typed, pasted, or kept from an AI suggestion. Export it as a PDF with a fingerprint of your manuscript. It is a record of how the book was made, not a detector and not a certificate. More.
What if I clear my browser?
Your work goes with it, because it only ever lived there. Back up from Settings regularly. It takes one click and makes one file.
Does it work on my phone?
It runs in any modern browser. It’s at its best on a laptop, a tablet works well, and the phone layout is still being made comfortable.
Can I install it?
Yes. In Chrome or Edge, use “Install app” in the address bar; on an iPhone or iPad, Share → Add to Home Screen. It opens straight into the studio.
