You own what you write. Buildblur is a tool: use it for your own work and don’t abuse it. Your writing is kept in your account, so it’s on every device you sign in on. Keep a backup file now and then anyway.
Who we are
Buildblur (“Buildblur”, “the service”) is made by BUILD/POV (“we”, “us”). These terms are the agreement between you and us when you use buildblur.com, the Buildblur studio and its installable app. By using Buildblur you accept them. If you don’t, please don’t use it.
Who can use it
You need to be at least 13 years old. If you’re under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, use Buildblur with the permission of a parent or guardian. If you use Buildblur for an organisation, you confirm you’re allowed to accept these terms for it.
Your work
Everything you write in Buildblur is yours. We claim no ownership of it. You give us only the permission we need to store it in your account and show it back to you on your devices; we don’t use it for anything else.
There is one exception, and you choose it: when you create a share link, you let us store a copy of that project and show it to anyone who has the link, until you or we remove it. You’re responsible for having the right to share it.
Where your work is kept
You sign in to use the studio. Your work is kept in your account, in our cloud database, and the browser you’re using keeps a copy so the studio opens fast and works offline. Changes reach your account a few seconds after you make them. Signing out removes the copy in that browser. If the account service can’t be reached, you can keep writing in the browser, and it moves into your account the next time you sign in.
We look after your account’s copy carefully, but no service is perfect. Use Settings → Back up everything now and then, and keep the file somewhere safe.
The AI features
The AI features (the “crew”, Jeff, and tools like the continuity check) send the text you ask about, and the parts of your world it needs, to third-party AI models through our server. Using them is optional. The AI policy explains what is sent and to whom.
- AI output can be wrong, repetitive, biased, or similar to text that already exists. Check it before you rely on it or publish it.
- Text you keep from a suggestion is yours to use, as far as the law where you live allows. Whether AI-assisted text can be protected by copyright differs between countries.
- The models are provided by others and may be slow, unavailable or change without notice.
Using Buildblur fairly
Follow the acceptable use policy. In short: fiction can go anywhere fiction goes, but don’t use Buildblur to break the law, to harm people, or to attack, overload or resell the service, including the AI endpoint, which everyone shares.
The authorship record
The authorship record counts what happens in Buildblur’s editor: text typed, pasted, or kept from an AI suggestion. It is kept with your scenes in your account. It is evidence of your process. It is not a certificate, a detector result or a legal guarantee, and we don’t verify it or vouch for it to anyone.
Plans and limits
During the beta, Buildblur is free: every feature, every export, and 100 AI requests a month. After the beta we plan to offer a paid plan and AI credits you can buy separately. Nothing is charged today. Before anything is, the price, billing period and taxes will be shown before you pay, you’ll be able to cancel at any time, and the refund policy will apply. We may change what the free and paid plans include; if a change takes something away from a plan you pay for, we’ll tell you at least 30 days before it applies. Whatever plan you are on, you can always open and export everything you have written.
Our software and name
Buildblur’s software, design and name belong to us or our licensors. You may use the studio for your own writing; please don’t copy, resell or rebrand the service. Buildblur includes open-source software used under its own licences; see credits.
If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything. Thank you.
Changes to the service
We improve Buildblur often, which means features change. We may also suspend or end the service. If we ever shut it down, we’ll give at least 60 days’ notice in the app so you can export everything, and every export is free.
No warranties
Buildblur is provided “as is” and “as available”. As far as the law allows, we make no promises that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or fit for a particular purpose, or that it will keep your work safe. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can’t be limited.
Limits on liability
As far as the law allows, we aren’t liable for lost work, lost profits, or indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you for any claim about Buildblur is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or US$50 if you paid nothing. This doesn’t limit liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or anything else that can’t be limited by law.
Ending
You can stop using Buildblur at any time, and delete your account from Settings; export your work first if you want to keep it. We may suspend share links or your access to the AI endpoint if you break these terms or the law, or to protect the service or other people.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of India. If you live elsewhere, you keep the protections the consumer laws of your country give you, and you can bring a claim where you live if those laws allow it.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Buildblur grows. The date at the top will change, and we’ll say so in the app before a significant change takes effect. If you keep using Buildblur after that, the new terms apply.
